Wayfinding System for the college of design at Iowa State University
This wayfinding system is designed on the basis of two concepts of Resourcefulness and Collaboration.
Recycled cardboard tubes are used for directional, identification signs and maps for each of floors. Using these re-cycled cardboard tubes is in accordance with the environmental sustainability and the unpolished quality of this material makes a reference to the iterative design process.
For the orientation sign, the gears are incorporated which is related to the concept of Collaboration. The symbolic meaning of the gears represents coordination and union of sub-departments in the college of design as a whole. In addition, this movable gear provides an opportunity for interaction, which allows the visitors to get engaged and experience the meaning of the concept. Moreover, they can have a positive impression on the College of Design.
REVISION - GROUP WORK
This wayfinding design system was chosen as a group project and made with revisions with two other group members. Floor maps were added on the orientation sign, the arrow and typography were refined in the team portion of the project.
